LEARN YOUR CRAFT. LOVE YOUR WORDS.
We’ve been trained to read stories as straightforward, chronological narratives. But that’s not the only way to structure a powerful, compelling essay–and new forms can breathe new life into your prose.
In this webinar, we’ll explore 8-10 alternative “shapes” for nonfiction essays, from the more commonly known “hermit crab” essay to Lydia Yuknavitch’s “narrative palimpsest” approach. Discover the pros and cons of various approaches, so you can choose the container that best fits each story you want to tell. As we experiment, each shape has something to teach you about your own story–and create emotional connection for the reader.
These fresh options for capturing your experiences can stimulate your creativity and even revive abandoned projects. Get ready to mix, mash, and mingle your stories into something totally new!
