Memoir writers often grow anxious about our reliability as narrators: what we recall clearly, what we recall only through the fog of time, what we may be recalling incorrectly. Yes, memory is inexact, but embracing these issues provides opportunities to strengthen both voice and character, build trust, and allow our readers more room to make sense of the story for themselves.
In our webinar, we will examine the different types of memories that arise, explore strategies for presenting incomplete memories, tackle the thorny “but my sister said it happened differently” moments, and work with stories where very little is remembered because of time or trauma. You’ll also receive useful examples, and prompts for your own work.
