Together, we’ll try to awaken the words we might write if it didn’t matter what we said. We’ll discuss how to get out of a creative rut by taking a playful, low-stakes approach to your writing process. Through exercises and examples, we’ll consider ways to knock our writing off balance, on purpose, and discover the rewards of paying less attention to the ends and more attention to the means.

Writing without the goal of publication is never time wasted, but balancing joyful exploration with rigor and precision will bring more of your words into the world.

ABOUT YOUR PRESENTER

LINDSEY DELOACH JONES holds a BA and MA in English and an MFA in Creative Nonfiction. In 2021-22 she taught as the Writer-in-Residence at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. She currently teaches writing online and in-person via Writeshare, the writers’ network she co-founded in Upstate SC. Lindsey previously taught literature and fiction writing at Clemson University and served as Editor of Emrys Journal and Edible Upcountry.

Among other places, her essays have been published in Split Lip, under the gum tree, Paste, Pigeon Pages, Brevity Blog, South Carolina Review, Salvation South, and Ruminate. She is a recipient of the VanderMey Nonfiction Prize, and an essay nominated by Pigeon Pages was recently a finalist for Best of the Web.
